Brigadier General (Retired) William A. Turner, Director

BG (R) William (Bill) Turner is a graduate of the United States Military Academy (USMA)
and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery in 1986. While at USMA he
earned a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Engineering Management. Bill also holds a
Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the National War College. His
military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, United
States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, and the National War
College at Fort McNair.
He has commanded at the Battery, Battalion, and Brigade levels. His service also includes
tours as an Executive Officer at the Battalion level and Operations Officer in the 25th Infantry
Division Artillery. Other staff level assignments include: Personnel Assignment Officer at the
United States Army Personnel Command, Plans Officer at United States Army Pacific, Deputy
Director of Executive Communications and Control for the Office of the Chief of Staff of the
Army (OCSA), Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, Army, Deputy Director/ Director Joint
Interagency Task Force for Multi-National Force- Iraq, Director Army Campaign Plan,
Executive Officer to the Headquarters Department of the Army Plans/Operations Officer
(HQDA G3/5/7), Executive Officer to the Vice Chief of Staff, Army (VCSA), Chief VCSA
Initiatives Group, and as the 51st Commandant of the United States Army Field Artillery
School and Chief of the Field Artillery.
Bill has been afforded many unique professional experiences and opportunities to include
duty in the Federal Republic of Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Korea, 1st Infantry
Division, 25th Infantry Division, XVIII Airborne Corps, 1st Army, 1st Armored Division, and
the Pentagon. He concluded his service in the Army as Deputy Commanding General of the 1st
Infantry Division.
Following his service in the Army, and prior to serving in his current capacity, Bill was a
Senior Mentor with the Mission Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
He is married to the former LTC (R) Alissa Deuel and they have four children. Their eldest,
Eric is a 1LT in the Army serving in the 82nd ABN Division and Sarah is a 2LT in the US Army
Reserve attending Medical School . Their two younger children are Rita Claire, a sophomore at
Kansas State University, and Morgan, a freshman at University of Oklahoma.
